Sugar High Fridays - April 2009: Take Me Away

I think you all know how much I like traveling. It really gives me that kick in the pants to keep going - whether I'm hiking in Switzerland, diving in Australia, wine tasting through Italy or surfing in Costa Rica, I am happiest when I'm on the move and checking out new places. I certainly don't get to do it as much now that I'm out of school and am bogged down by those pesky vacation time limits, but it is still one of my most loved passions.

So, when I signed up to host Sugar High Fridays, created byJennifer at The Domestic Goddess, I knew I wanted to do something travel themed. So I am excited to announce that the theme for SHF April 2009 is desserts inspired by your favorite travel destinations! Did you have an amazing apple strudel in Lauterbrunnen? Or maybe an incredible crepe in Paris? What about delicious Mississippi Mud Pie in Jackson, or some tasty Key Lime Pie in Key Largo? I want to hear about it! The rules are simple: create a recipe based on your favorite travel destination dessert, and tell me why you chose it.

Please submit recipes to me at heather DOT rascona AT gmail DOT com by April 24, 2009 at midnight Eastern Standard Time. Please give me the permalink to your post, a general link to your blog, and a 250x250 JPEG Image of your dessert. I'll remind you throughout the month with fun desserts inspired by some of my favorite trips, and I look forward to seeing your entries!

It looks like we share the love of travel! A lot of my recipes are travel-inspired! I'm going to London in two weeks and will try to create a recipe after I come back!

Hmmm, the only place I have been in the last 10 years is Mexico and beer isn't considered a dessert. Would s'mores count? We eat those camping and that is usually our summer vacay. Tapping forehead, thinking........

I adore travelling and have been lucky enough to have done a fair bit of foreign travel in my time. I will have to put my thinking cap on and see what I can come up with for this one!

I'm game! Different cultures have different ideas of what constitutes 'dessert' so I love trying out new flavors. Now let me see . . .

FYI - I made your Foster's ketchup today! We fired up the grill for the first time this year and made some burgers topped with your recipe. It was absolutely delicious and this is from someone who doesn't care for ketchup at al! Many thanks for sharing. 8-)

What a cool round-up! I'll have to start thinking. Like you I am at my best when seeing new places. Although I think many of my favorite desserts I experienced before I got into the habit of taking food photos. :)
