Pomegranate-Rose Water Mojito (Quick Post, No Pics)

I'm not sure how many of you, my fair readers, are trial attorneys. But I'm thinking those of you who are might relate to this. You know when you walk into court with a slam dunk case? I mean SLAM. DUNK. You know you're going to win. Your client testifies, the minimize a little bit, but it goes well. It's in the bag. And then the other side whips out the smoking gun. You know - that evidence you asked about, wondered if it existed, grilled the client about but they SWORE up and down it didn't? Then, at trial you find out it sure does exist, and it's probably gonna screw up your case.

So, that was me today. And after that trial, I was ready to have a drink. I had that pesky little issue of finishing my work day... but after that, I came home to relax and watch some movies (particularly Gideon's Trumpet). I made a pomegranate-rose water cocktail, which I didn't photograph because my camera is still out of batteries from my vacation. It was really good, though - I definitely recommend trying it!

Ingredients: (serves 2)

4 large basil leaves
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp simple syrup
2 tsp lime juice
1/2 tsp rose water
1/4 c white rum
1/2 c sparkling pomegranate juice (or 1/2 c pomegranate juice and 1/2 c club soda)
6 ice cubes
2 highball glasses, filled with ice

Directions:

combine basil leaves, lime juice and sugar in a martini shaker and muddle thoroughly
add ice, simply syrup, rose water and rum
shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds
fill 2 glasses 1/2 way
top with pomegranate juice
serve

(I would definitely have added about 1/2 a lime during the muddling if I had it on me)

I understand your day, my hubby and I have been in court more times than I'd like to remember trying to get custody of his children. We have them, thank God. Love your drink, I hope it hit the spot for you!

I have no idea where to buy rose water-we don't have many options here in our small town. It sounds wonderful though.

Sorry about the trial. The only thing I can relate it to would be a lying teenage girl......not that I have one of THOSE or anything.

Hope tomorrow is better :)

Certainly sounds like this could fix what ails you! And I even have the rosewater in my fridge (I use it in a chicken marinade) but don't know what else to use it for.

I am amazed that after a day like that you could concoct a drink like that (I'd just grab the wine bottle).

What a grand summer drink. I usually open a bottle of wine and be done with it - this would be a great way to unwind. Love all the flavors.

Mojitos are my favorite! I'm hesitant about rose water - but still, I've yet to meet a mojito I didn't like!

I once went to debate camp where we had to act out a trial. The real attorney there told me I'd make a fabulous lawyer. But when I learned I couldn't twirl in court, I figured life of a lawyer was not for me!

Heather,

I love reading about your day as a lawyer!! VERY INTERESTING!! The drink sounds fresh and a perfect way to end the day.

Sorry the day didn't go so well. However, you do have a way with mojitos. Another fabulous one. Yum!

This cocktail sounds like the perfect cure for a bad day in court. I am thankfully not a trial attorney, but I still get the regular omission of important facts that sometimes come out by accident early on, and other times only later, at the worst possible time.

Delicious! Still waiting for your book of cocktails to come out...

What a fantastic idea - I am loving mojitos right now and I just happen to have pomegranate juice.

Great drink recipe after a very bad day. Can't wait to see more of your vacation photos!

And best wishes to your Mom! Having more family (and more people to love) is just about the greatest thing ever.

I was sitting in my Mum's kitchen yesterday, smelling a couple of beautiful roses from her garden and trying to think of what the smell reminded me of. Then I realised that it was the smell of really good rosewater (well, duh!) and now that I've seen this post, I really quite fancy a cocktail with some rosewater in it...

ughhhhhhhhhhh how annoying! What a tasty sounding drink though- hope it brightened up the day ;)

Pomegranate and rum, this must have been good!

Jeff said...

Yikes! I have no clue how I would react in that situation. However, in your defense the client buried themselves by not being upfront about the smoking gun. Still sucks though.

You definitely need a drink after that situation!

I have been on a mojito kick lately as an excuse to cut down on my massive mint plant but I see no reason why I can't use mojitos now as an excuse to down on the basil plant too.

I love your drink recipes... this sounds fantastic.

Ooo - this is fantastic! Hubs made classic mojitos last night but I'm loving this basil/pom/rosewater combo! This is exactly the kind of drink that can take you away from such a day!

I think I am going to steal your idea for a Moroccan-themed dinner I am hosting this weekend!
